So let's forget about the fact that I haven't posted anything in over 4 months. We'll skip right through our trip to Sacramento and Portland, the miserably hot month of August and thet start of school. Instead we will just pick up right here on Nov. 4, 2009, which of course is only 4 days after Halloween.
What a fun evening. Madysen was absolutey adorable, if I do say so myself. Jaden and Easton looked so authentic, and Mariah... well Mariah went out with her dad and she never took a picture of her costume, so I have no idea how cute she was. Thanks a lot Mariah! From what I understand she was a "punk rock princess" and all I know is that I made her the same tutu that I made for Madysen and she incorporated that into her costume design. I will never know for sure though.
We took the kids to our wards Trunk or Treat, which really isn't a trunk or treat because we do it at the park in the Hidden Groves. Instead everyone sits in a huge, unorganized circle and the kids march around from parent to parent receiving their goods. Madysen seemed to have only recognized the suckers, whereas Jaden clearly recognized the purpose of the holiday and proceeded to race around the circle as many times as he could collecting candy from everyone 2 or 3 times! Easton was excited too. He understood the concept, but not as fully as Jaden did. By the time everyone ran out of candy and it was time to pack up J's designer halloween pillow case was at least half full.
And then we hit the streets. We ran into some old friends while trick or treating. The Monsons in our old Los Alamos ward even had fresh scones with fruit spread for the adults, as well as candy for the kids. Will thought that was great.
By the time we got half way around the block J's bag was too heavy for him to carry and Easton was too tired to carry himself. So between Will and I we were carrying 3 bags of candy, 1 princess and an army man. Jaden could have kept going for a few more blocks, but Easton had to quit.
Next year I am sure will be just as exciting and just as rewarding for the kids and for us. But not it's time to look forward to Thanksgiving and the CHRISTMAS!!! I love this time of year. Halloween is like the kick off to the holiday season. I might even be motivated enough to post a blog or two during the course of the season!
